BPI France launches AdvanThink as part of the France 2030 adventure!

AdvanThink is a French player, a pioneer in artificial intelligence and a leader in fraud detection. Thanks to its 35 years of expertise in Data, AI and Healthcare, the company has been selected by the BPI to contribute to the growth of French Healthcare R&D.

The INNOV UP project:

Since January 2022, Advanthink has focused its efforts on the healthcare field, and more specifically on multi-omics data analysis. The aim is to draw on Data Science and exploit Business Expertise to extract new information and, in so doing, better understand the underlying mechanisms linked to a given physio-pathological context.

Thanks to our Amadea platform, we approach our work as data artisans: we reference data, interpret it, explain it and derive information that enables us to understand the underlying mechanisms linked to a given physio-pathological context. Our approach is meticulous and profound. It differs from generic approaches, and systematically allows us to find the improbable, to unleash the extraordinary in what we have on hand: "data is the key!

The Amadea platform for managing and exploiting data/IA has been intrinsically linked to advances in healthcare for almost 30 years. It is used by numerous laboratories and experts in the field for research, and will naturally be used for this new work.

Brice Perdrix, CEO of AdvanThink, states:
"We are honored to receive recognition from the BPI, which values our research and development efforts in the field of AI applied to biological and medical issues."

Jean-Philippe MEYNIEL, PhD, BU Life Science Manager

"Concepts and knowledge evolve very rapidly in Biology. Implementing analysis tools that can keep ahead of these developments is a real challenge.

Advanthink has used its skills to specialize its Model Factory as a tool for industrial performance: optimizing Machine Learning models, comparing and classifying them, and ensuring that they evolve as research progresses. Taking into account new work and new data completes the technological set-up in place, bringing convincing advances in the understanding and analysis of this particularly complex field.

This partnership between BPI France and Advanthink will enable us to rapidly focus our efforts on results, and already predicts major advances in our understanding of biological mechanisms and in the treatment of numerous pathologies.

PSD3: a major turning point for the payment industry

The third Payment Services Directive (PSD3), scheduled for 2026, promises to be a significant evolution in the European payments regulatory landscape. This new directive considerably strengthens security and authentication requirements, with far-reaching implications for the entire payment ecosystem.

Enhanced safety and transparency

PSD3 imposes greater obligations on payment service providers (PSPs) in terms of security and transparency. The sharing of information with issuers will have to be intensified, requiring the adaptation of current systems and processes. A crucial point concerns the use of personal data: PSPs will be able to exploit certain information (device, time-stamp, IP) without explicit consent, but only in the context of the fight against fraud.

Greater responsibility for suppliers

A major innovation of PSD3 is the increased accountability of payment service providers. In the event of fraud occurring after a strong authentication exemption (SCA) on their initiative, they could be held liable. This provision creates a direct financial incentive to maintain a high level of security, while seeking to preserve the fluidity of the customer experience.

Strong authentication at the heart of the system

PSD3 confirms and reinforces the central role of strong authentication, inherited from PSD2. However, it also underlines the need to seamlessly integrate payment into the overall shopping experience. The figures speak for themselves: according to an Adyen/Ipsos study, nearly 20% of shopping cart abandonments are due to a failure in strong authentication. This highlights the crucial importance of optimizing this stage of the customer journey.

The Verification of Payee (VOP) challenge

The announced generalization of the Verification of Payee (VOP) principle represents a new technical and operational challenge. Issuers will have to systematically verify that bank details (IBAN) match the name of the beneficiary for all types of credit transfer. This requirement comes at a time when credit transfers are set to play a growing role in Europe's payment strategy, notably with the launch of WERO and the widespread use of instant payment.

PSD3 marks a decisive turning point for the European payment industry. It imposes a delicate balance between strengthening security and preserving the fluidity of the customer experience. Industry players will have to invest heavily in technological innovation and process optimization to meet these new requirements, while maintaining a high-quality user experience. The ability to control the customer journey while effectively combating fraud in real time will be crucial to the success of payment service providers in this new regulatory environment.

AI Action Summit on February 10-11, 2025 – AdvanThink reaffirms its commitment to AI without compromise

On February 10 and 11, Paris will host the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence, an event organized by the Elysée Palace and featuring experts from around the world.

The stakes are clear, as Clara Chappaz, Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Economy, explained on Wednesday January 15 at the Council of Ministers: bring together all stakeholders and promote the development of AI, its rapid deployment and a commitment to sustainable AI.

Since its creation, AdvanThink, an Artificial Intelligence pioneer celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, has been working to set up sustainable and secure Data and AI projects, and investing heavily to meet the challenges of critical, highly regulated sectors of vital interest.

The AI Action Summit is an opportunity for AdvanThink to reaffirm its commitment to uncompromising, high-performance, secure and sustainable AI.

Artificial Intelligence, yes, but industrialized

For 35 years, our FraudManager and Amadea software have been supporting 90% of French banks, health research institutes, ministries and manufacturers in implementing critical Data & AI projects. AdvanThink's solutions enable their Data and Business teams to connect, cleanse, analyze and model all their data, in real time, and build "Data Products", i.e. business applications built on the exploitation of data. These applications are operational and accessible to users who are not data experts.

Artificial Intelligence therefore brings concrete results, enabling business experts to deepen and improve their primary missions, using Data.

"Data and AI are not an end in themselves. The real philosophy behind our software is to enable users who are experts in their field to rely on AI and Data to carry out their mission. That's why we go so far as to build business applications based on the exploitation of massive amounts of data. This is the case, for example, for fraud experts in the banking sector, to whom we offer bank payment fraud detection and monitoring tools capable of identifying the risk of fraud linked to a transaction in real time" comments Brice Perdrix, CEO of AdvanThink.

Sovereign, secure data science software

AdvanThink customers process and exploit highly sensitive data.

FraudManager and Amadea software have always provided end-to-end security, and are regularly audited to ensure maximum security.

We comply with the most stringent compliance requirements and security standards on the market, and our teams are authorized to support our customers in handling their classified data.

In general, AdvanThink integrates a "DevSecOps" approach into the development and design phases of Amadea and Fraud Manager. This approach is also a central part of our customer support services. It ensures that security practices are included and prioritized in all projects.

Responsible, frugal AI

Is Artificial Intelligence capable of raising alerts in real time on mass data necessarily an energy sink?

AdvanThink's Data Science software has been designed from the outset on low-energy foundations. This enables us, for example, to optimize the energy consumption of the algorithms we use, or to explore even massive amounts of data instantaneously. One of the challenges when training and processing large volumes of data is to succeed in accelerating data processing times. By way of example, some of our algorithms are up to 300 times faster than those of Scikit-learn, and are constantly being optimized to reduce their carbon footprint, improve the user-friendliness of our solutions and enhance overall project performance.

We also favor a responsible approach to the continuous improvement of our products, to enable all our users to reconcile the performance of Artificial Intelligence that works with the sustainability of its uses. More than just a line in a roadmap, it's a philosophy shared by all our Data and AI experts, and one that lies at the heart of our corporate DNA.

On February 10 and 11, AdvanThink will be reaffirming its strong commitment to a pragmatic approach to Artificial Intelligence. AI that serves uses and innovation, AI that protects all data according to their degree of sensitivity, and AI that is part of a sustainable approach. We have been keeping these commitments in 2025 for 35 years, and we pledge that they will continue to form the basis of our innovations in the years to come, to help build an uncompromising, high-performance, secure and sustainable AI alongside the French Data and AI ecosystem.

Covid-19 research: CNAM's GBCM Laboratory and AdvanThink join forces

The Bio & Santé division of AdvanThink, a leader in the exploitation and exploration of massive and complex data, and the CNAM's GBCM Laboratory (Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Molecular Chemistry), under the direction of Prof. Jean-François Zagury, today announced a strategic collaboration aimed at contributing to biomedical research in the field of Covid-19.

The unprecedented challenges posed by this global pandemic have made it necessary for all researchers to work together across disciplines to improve our understanding of the disease's pathophysiological mechanisms and open up new avenues for diagnosis and treatment.

A key objective of this collaboration is precisely the analysis of patients' immune response data to better understand the mechanisms of susceptibility or protection, and consequently find new therapeutic avenues.

AdvanThink's Amadea platform offers new possibilities for bioanalyzing hundreds of thousands of data sets to study the immune response to the virus. The complexity of the data to be analyzed is undeniable, but thanks to Amadea, researchers can benefit from a highly efficient exploration tool, enabling them to finely analyze the data with a real-time response to the hypotheses envisaged.

This collaboration focuses on several axes, including data evaluation and validation, research methodology, and communication and dissemination of results.

A first scientific publication1 was published in January 2023, and another is due to be released shortly. By pooling their respective expertise, the two partners intend to make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge on Covid-19 and to the fight against the pandemic.

- Jean-Philippe Meyniel (PhD, Head of Bio & Health Dept) and Brice PERDRIX (CEO) expressed their satisfaction with this initiative: "Our aim is to provide innovative solutions that combine speed, precision and reliability, as this is how we make our essential contribution to the fight against Covid-19".
- For his part, Professor Jean-François Zagury, head of the GBCM Laboratory, underlined the importance of this collaboration: "Having tested their solution and noted its effectiveness through convincing results, we have decided to adopt it to improve the quality and speed of our research. We will also try to use this high-performance technology to work on other types of data and other diseases (e.g. chikungunya...)".

FINANCE MAG - Olympic Games: the perfect haven for bank fraud

In just over a month, the Paris Olympic Games will get underway. While the number of tourists attending the event will be extremely high, the number of payment fraud attempts will also soar. Brice Perdrix, CEO of AdvanThink, explains.

July 26 sees the opening of the Paris Olympic Games. A moment long-awaited by many sports fans. During these festive days, some 15 million tourists are expected to visit the capital. A colossal figure that will drastically increase the number of credit card payments. And where there's an increase in the number of payments, there's also an increase in the number of frauds and attempted frauds. In fact, every major event (as was the case during the World Cup in Brazil) is accompanied by a surge in payment fraud, and with it, a deterioration in the confidence and image of the banking sector.
Fraudsters take advantage of the increase in transaction volumes to go unnoticed, whether during in-store or online card transactions.

A constant battle

To minimize the impact of fraud on payments, a number of companies have specialized in this area. One such company is AdvanThink, the French leader in the fight against financial crime. Today, AdvanThink protects around 60 billion euros worth of transactions every day, which represents almost 95% of bankcard flows in France. Not least thanks to the systematic use of artificial intelligence. But how does this fight against fraud actually work? Brice Perdrix, President of AdvanThink, explains this fight in more detail. "To detect fraud, we position probes on all the different payment flows or customer interactions with their bank. This could be when they type in their online banking password, when they request a cash withdrawal from an ATM, or simply when they make a conventional payment. We use this data to carry out a real-time behavioral analysis, on the basis of which we predict the risk of fraud associated with this transaction. And depending on the results we obtain, we'll either authorize the transaction, refuse it or authorize it, but warn the person to make sure he or she is the originator of the payment".

But how can you tell the difference between fraud and a secure payment? "We have a set of clues that point towards the fact that it's a legitimate transaction, but also towards the fact that it's an attempt at fraud. And thanks to data as well as behavioral analysis, the decision is made in real time, in milliseconds with AI algorithms."

However, this method still has its drawbacks. Sometimes, the difference between a real transaction and a dubious one is minimal. This makes it difficult to identify all frauds. "If we really wanted to prevent all fraud, it would be enough to simply block all transactions as soon as there was any doubt, but this would become a real hell for citizens. Imagine being asked to identify yourself three or four times for each payment. That would be untenable," continues Brice Perdrix.

The Paris Olympics: a closely watched event

In 2022, according to a report by the Banque de France, the percentage of fraud by value and volume has fallen by 4% compared with 2021. Bankcard fraud rates have also fallen, reaching 0.053%, the lowest historical score. But despite these encouraging figures, the staging of the Paris Olympic Games will undoubtedly push these figures upwards. As we know today, most frauds and attempted frauds are carried out by well-established criminal organizations. And they don't hesitate to come up with ever more ingenious methods.

This is precisely the point that sometimes worries industry professionals. Especially since, with the widespread use of artificial intelligence, fraudsters have also integrated the use of AI into their processes. This is one of the reasons why we need to raise public awareness as much as possible. Because, yes, technological innovations are constantly improving, but they can't protect citizens from all threats. We also need to set up awareness-raising programs so that everyone knows the risks associated with these fraudulent practices.

Nevertheless, for Brice Perdrix, "France is one of the most effective countries in the fight against bank fraud, and that's why I think we're well equipped to deal effectively with the threats we face". The answer will be given at the Olympic Games in just over a month's time.
